The Growing Popularity Of Online Gambling

How popular is sports betting in your area
Sports betting is said to have started from Northern America and parts of Europe.
it can simply be described as the predictions of sports results by placing a wager on the outcome.

While there has been pool stalking and lottery known as "baba ijebu" in Nigeria, sports betting which is generally prominent among the youth between the ages of 13-40 appears to have taken over as the most prevalent type of betting or gambling

Millions of people who troop out of their homes each day especially on weekends to stake a game have turned the proprietors of the bet companies such as Nairabet, Bet9ja, Surebet and others to moguls and very rich people.

Sport betting has become a means of survival for some, while for others it has become a family business were Father and son exchange betting tips.
It was alleged in some parts of the country that housewives now use some portion of their "monthly allowance" to bet a game.

Some persons say that betting is becoming more lucrative than a white collar job. Lmao
I think we should start taking betting courses in school then.

Recently, Engr Ighalo, a lecturer in a Nigerian University was said to have won over fifty million naira after placing a bet with just  N800.

Let's be realistic, Engr Ighalo will never get such amount in his lecturing job in the next 10 years if depends solely on his salary.

As Good as betting or gambling sounds its not as easy as it seems because, betting companies only survive when their customers lose their bets or how else do you expect them to make their money?

Your misfortune is a gain for them, and when you are fortunate to win, they would be at the recieving end counting their losses.

Sports betting today, seems to have encouraged stealing among kids. Especially, those in high school, since it is more appealing to the younger age unlike pool stalking or "baba ijebu"

While these companies would argue that betting is only for a particular age group, a typical Nigerian would know that, it is not true as there is nothing in place to verify the age of their customers.
This is because,We are in a society where the value for money is higher than the value for morals.
Moreover,  Younger players who (maybe) would be turned away at the bet shops can lie about their ages and easily access online gambling websites from the comfort of their homes.

Gambling in general has created lot of problems in some homes.
We have seen or heard of persons who staked all their savings on gambling and lost everything.
But as risky as it is, it still hasn't deterred the Young Nigerians and has in a way reduced the practice of cyber crime among these set of citizens.
Sports betting is risky, but again everything we do in life is a risk.
